Firefighting & EMT

Our Firefighting and Emergency Medical Technician major is an academy level course that immerses students into academy level training. Using a wide range of firefighting and life-saving medical and diagnostic equipment, students develop their skills through real world emergency scenarios and field experiences.

Firefighting prerequisites at time of sophomore review:
Minimum of 7 total credits; of these, 5 must be core credits (1 must be in English, 1 must be math), on track to graduate

Also recommended: 1 credit in a lab-based science course, 1 Algebra credit, "C" or higher in all English courses, on grade-level for reading

EMT prerequisites at time of Junior review:  Minimum of 12.5 total credits; of these, 9.5 must be core credits (2 must be English, 1 must be math), on track to graduate

  • Also recommended: 2 science credits (1 of which is lab-based), 2 math credits,  "C" or higher in all English courses, on grade-level for  reading

A medical physical, clean background check, and drug screening must be passed and submitted by the first day of class.
