Essential Processing Skills Needed for Success

• Work individually and in groups
• Understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents (technical reading)
• Understand and use basic math computations; including percentages, fractions, decimals, rulers and standard units of measurement
• Have a basic working knowledge of hand and power tools
• Have an awareness of personal safety in the shop, adhere to safety procedures and assume personal responsibility
• Manage own time and the time of others
• Follow both written and oral instructions
• Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem solving and decision making
• Respecting the importance of accuracy as it relates to mechanisms of a vehicle
• Demonstrate deductive reasoning or the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
• Demonstrate inductive reasoning or the ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions. This includes being able to find a relationship among seemingly unrelated events

Essential Physical Skills Needed for Success

• Keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position
• Make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
• Able to climb, lift, and handle taxing physical activity
• Tolerate working in a diesel environment that includes high places, small spaces, extreme temperatures, outdoors, smells and dirty environments
• Bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs
• Detect or tell the differences between sounds that vary in pitch and loudness
• Work for extended periods of time
